Lumiere TV Chooses Leitch to Upgrade Cyprus Digital Broadcast Facility

September 9, 2004 - Amsterdam
Leitch Technology Corporation (TSX:LTV) today announced that Lumiere TV (LTV), the Cypriot pay-TV broadcaster, will upgrade its broadcast facilities to digital with a complete Leitch peripheral system. The Leitch agreement was the first major contract Lumiere signed for the digital upgrade of its entire broadcast transmission system, scheduled to be fully commissioned for operation in January 2005.

“We need to upgrade our broadcast facility to digital and prepare to handle multiple broadcast channels. We chose Leitch based on the quality, flexibility and value for money they provide, which will help us achieve our additional aim of increasing the efficiency of our operations,” said Lumiere TV Technical Director Evagoras Constantinides. “This upgrade will also enable us to offer third-party clients in Cyprus, the Middle East and continental Europe services like multi-channel playout, content management, acquisition scheduling, production and post production, transmission and connectivity — all under one roof.”

Leitch will provide a wide range of conversion, distribution and synchronisation equipment for both digital and analogue signals, including the Leitch DAS-3901 composite decoder, part of the NEO Simplicity Series that combines both audio and video processing functions on a single module. Also included is Leitch’s DPS-575 digital processing synchroniser, which is equally suited for use in analogue, digital or hybrid facilities making it the ideal choice for broadcasters transitioning to DTV.

Tying the system together is the Leitch Command Control System™ (CCS), a real-time command and control system that provides configuration, control, monitoring and secure access to Leitch and third-party equipment on a network, regardless of network topology.

The Leitch equipment is scheduled for delivery in October.

Lumiere TV Selects Leitch NEXIO™ Servers for its New Multi-Channel Playout System

March 29, 2005 - Bracknell, England
Leitch Technology Corporation (TSX: LTV), a leading provider of SD/HD solutions for professional digital video, today announced that Lumiere TV, the Cypriot pay-TV broadcaster, has selected NEXIO™ servers for its new multi-channel playout system that is scheduled to go on-air in May.

The new, expandable 10-channel system gives Lumiere the ability to increase the efficiency of its own operations and also offer third-party clients in Cyprus, the Middle East and continental Europe services such as multi-channel playout, content management, acquisition and scheduling, production and post production, transmission and connectivity —all under one roof. Lumiere currently broadcasts two premium pay-TV channels offering movies, series and sport programmes.

“We installed a wide range of Leitch conversion, distribution and synchronisation technology last year, and with the installation of the NEXIO servers as the foundation of our multi-channel system, we are confident we will deliver the high level of service expected by our customers,” said Evagoras Constantinides, technical director, Lumiere TV. “Leitch products span the breadth of the industry and offer a reliable digital infrastructure, which is essential in today’s marketplace.”

NEXIO is a modular, scalable server system for transmission and news environments, which offers integrated application platforms for editing, browsing and media management across a multi-tiered storage hierarchy. NEXIO provides exceptional fault-tolerance and interoperability (including IP), and supports multiple compression formats in both standard and high definition, industry-standard control protocols, third-party file formats and ASI interface, providing broadcasters with the flexibility they need to meet any future requirements. As an operation grows, NEXIO’s modular and scalable design allows users to build systems — up to 24 terabyte in a single domain — in small, low-cost increments.
